Apple Health Study Begins, for Enrolled Apple Watch Users

We overtook you in Soy de Mac, that Apple was developing a study in collaboration with Stanford University. The collaboration aims to study the behavior of the heart in Apple Watch users, who signed up for the program, know their habits and prevent possible coronary problems.

Once the actions to be carried out have been planned Apple together with Stanford UniversityTo capture the steps of the study, now it is time to collect data. The company is sending notifications to Apple Watch owners targeted at the study, to let them know that the project is underway.

When the user receives the notification, they authorize to share their data with Apple from that moment. The requirements are basic, including indicating that the communication will be in English. On this occasion, users with a cardiac pathology such as atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter cannot participate in the study. Those who take blood-thinning medications, don't either.

Then Apple sends a couple of emails. They assume the typical consent documents about the information that will be received. It is nothing more than the typical form of the data protection law. In this case, it is regulated by HIPAA.

The study, known by the name of Apple Heart Study- evaluation of wristwatch-based photoplethysmography to identify cardiac arrhythmias, was announced at the presentation of the Apple Watch September 3. It is one more sample of Apple to focus the use of our Apple Watch to lead a healthy lifestyle. This action is joined to others prepared by the company, such as the initiative scheduled for this month of February.

Apple will take the opportunity to publicize other technologies, thanks to the data provided by users:

This study is part of the development of a new investigational device and certain study data will be used for submission to the FDA and seeking approval of other investigational devices.

It is unknown if the device will be developed by Apple, by Stanford University or by a partnership between the two.
