Apple exceeds its suppliers' clean energy target by 25%

Apple Solar Power Farm

Years ago Apple launched a program for its suppliers to produce their products with renewable energy. The plan was ambitious as certain companies were in areas with low infrastructure to undertake the process with clean energy.

You now have a list of 44 providers subscribed to the program, after joining up to 21 new vendors including iPhone assemblers Wistron and Pegatron. They all agree to use the 100% clean energy in your processes. In the latest renewable energy reports, we learn that Apple is raising its 2020 target from 4 gigabits to 5 gigawatts.

The ecological energy sources most used by Apple suppliers are those derived from wind and solar energy. In the statement made by Lisa Jackson, Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives at Apple, we can read:

Every time one of our suppliers joins our efforts, to address climate change, we move closer to a better future for the next generation

Apple Store with renewable energy

The latest suppliers to join Apple's list of 44 manufacturers, Winstron and Pegatron, are committing to Apple to transform their production process, using green energy. Logically all Apple installations, from offices to retail storesThey have been running on renewable energy for a long time. Jackson was proud of the work done in recent years:

While we are proud of our announcement today, we will continue to drive change within our industry to support the clean energy transition that is taking place globally.

Apple's financial effort is estimated at about 300 million. This investment has been developed in China in the period of the last 4 years. Apple collaborated with suppliers to have green production processes in the manufacture of their products as soon as possible. And it not only intervenes in production processes. Through the project Green bonds I work with steel industries to source 100% recycled aluminum alloys for the manufacture of aluminum components for MacBook Air and Mac mini, as some examples.
