AliveCor files antitrust lawsuit against company over Apple Watch

Alive Cor

About a month ago, AliveCor tried to get the ECG function of the Apple Watch banned in the US. He was alleging patent infringement. Now it goes one step further and has sued the American company for monopoly. The reason is that Apple excluded third-party heart rate analysis providers from the Apple Watch and that has hurt AliveCor.

According to AliveCor, Apple's decision to exclude third-party heart rate analysis providers from the Apple Watch has hurt the company and affected patients and consumers. AliveCor created the SmartRhythm app, using data from the Apple Watch heart rate algorithm. This is able to determine when a heart rate is irregular and suggests that they take their pulse with one of his products, KardiaBand.

KardiaBand received FDA approval in 2017, and in 2018, Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 4 with ECG capabilities built-in and your own irregular heart rate notifications. AliveCor claims that Apple took notice of the success of the KardiaBand and changed the functionality of watchOS to sabotage it. And in that way, to be able to monopolize the market of the analysis of heart rate in Apple Watch.

The plaintiff company claims that the SmartRhythm app was initially allowed on the App Store, but Apple later claimed that it violated the ‌App Store guidelines. They further allege that Apple "made changes to the watchOS heart rate algorithm" to ensure that competitor apps will not work.

Watch 5 did not improve the user experience. However prevented third parties from identifying irregular heart rate situations. Therefore, they offered applications that could compete with the company's watch.

One more trial for apple that she's used to it to this type of event.
