Some days ago we told you that Apple's HomeKit-compatible routers would have an update that would improve their security and even if the new configuration was a bit of a mess, it would definitely be worth it. Now the news goes the same way and refers to the routers of the Amazon company. Both the Eero and the Eero Pro.
These devices are now compatible with HomeKit adding new security measures. Of course, it seems that it is going to be 2020, the year of HomeKit and especially of its compatibility with third-party devices. Rather, third-party companies are getting the hang of HomeKit.
Amazon's Eero and Eero Pro officially have support for HomeKit giving them more security
If you have an Eero router o Eero Pro by AmazonYou should know that there is an update that should be available. It provides new security options for routers. In addition to device management, now it is easier to use than ever. Therefore the way your smart home communicates with the Internet should be easier and more secure than before the update.
To be able to enjoy this new version, you only have to go to the Eero or Eero Pro application on the Apple device that has it installed. Access within the «discover» menu, which is at the bottom (normally) and follow the update instructions. Finally, it would be necessary to add the Eero devices to the Home application.
There are currently three levels of security that Apple offers for accessories paired with HomeKit routers:
- Restrictive mode: The safest. Your accessory can only interact with HomeKit through your Apple devices. The accessory will not connect to the internet or any local device, so third-party services such as firmware updates may be blocked.
- Automatic: default security. Your accessory can communicate with HomeKit and the connections recommended by its manufacturer.
- Without restrictions: less safe. This setting allows the accessory to interact with any device on your network or Internet-based service.
