Apple updates AirPods firmware

AirPods Pro

Apple just released a few hours ago a new firmware for some current AirPods models. Although they are simple headphones, inside they have different sensors, speakers and microphones that, together with the bluetooth system, must be managed by powerful software that controls all these elements in real time.

So from time to time, Apple releases an update to renew said internal firmware. A silent renewal, since the user is not going to find out about it. You can't force the device to update, nor will you receive any notification when it happens. A real "Silent mode» to update, without a doubt.

The guys from Cupertino just released a new version of the internal firmware that manages the AirPods just four hours ago. It's about the version 5B58 for AirPods 2, AirPods 3, original AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max, which replaces firmware 4E71 that was released in May.

If you wonder why they AirPods Pro 2 are not on the list, it is because Apple already released a new version (5B58) of their firmware just a few days ago. So only the first original AirPods have been left without updating.

As usual in the company for AirPods updates, Apple has not reported on the news presented by the new version of said firmware.

Wait for them to update themselves

The user cannot "force" their AirPods to update. It is done automatically when they are close to the iPhone they are paired to. You can try putting AirPods in the case, plugging them into a power source, and then pairing AirPods with an iPhone or iPad. Normally doing this, after a while they are already updated.

What you can do is find out if they have been updated. Connect your AirPods to your iPhone, open Settings, Bluetooth, and if you click on the information icon of your AirPods, the firmware version appears, among other data.
