Apple Watch is exempt from paying tariffs

Apple Watch Product RED

US President Donald Trump imposed economic tariffs on all products that came from China. The Apple Watch did not get rid of them, initially. It is true that then they were lowered to 50% and now the good news, at least for Apple, is that the wareable is completely exempted of the aforementioned tariffs.

After Apple's request, the Apple Watch is exempt from Tariffs

Last year the President of the United States established tariffs on all products originating from China. Exactly 15% tax. The Apple Watch was not spared, however it was downgraded last month thanks to an initial trade agreement between the United States and China. Right now and after a request from Apple, Apple Watch is excluded from this tariff payment.

Apple addressed the request to the United States Trade Representative advising that the Apple Watch «not strategically important nor is it related to 'Made in China 2025' or other Chinese industrial programs. ' Apple also said it has yet to find a source outside of China that could meet US demand for the Apple Watch.

This request has been approved and as of now Apple will not have to pay more for manufacturing this device in China. At the moment it is a battle won for the American company, because it has achieved it in the Apple Watch and in select parts of the Mac Pro.

There is still to continue fighting because the US Government considers the other requested products in the same way, such as the iPhone, AirPods and others.

Many months of struggle pay off. We still remember the statements of Tim Cook in which he commented to Donald Trump that this tax would prevent competing with Samsung from you to you in the technological fight that both companies have.
