Many are the companies that due to the complete stoppage of their activity, are being forced to dismiss the majority of their employees temporarily, which in Spain has been called ERTE. In other countries, there are directly no half measures and many are the workers who are queuing in unemployment.
The majority of Apple employees continue to do their work from home, so they have not stopped working at any time, but they have to go to the Apple Park facilities. This has caused most of the outside personnel who work for Apple, such as bus drivers or janitors, have become expendable.
When Apple announced in mid-March that it closed each and every Apple Store that Apple has around the world, except in China, it stated that all employees would continue to receive their full salary. According to the Wall Street Journal, this measure will also apply to all external employees who work at Apple Park, even though they are not going to their job.
Previously, contractors working for Apple had signed that 75% of their employees they would lose their wages and medical benefits to be forced to fire them, unless Apple promised to continue paying the hours they planned to work in their jobs, if the coronavirus had not done its thing.
Apple slamming Kristin Huger has confirmed that the company is working with its suppliers to ensure that all workers receive their salary correspondent:
We are working with all of our vendors to ensure that hourly workers, such as cleaning staff, bus drivers, and custodians, are paid during this difficult time.
