Fornite developer plans to launch an online store for macOS

Months ago it has been rumored in relation to an alleged version of Fortnite for macOS. At the moment we have no news about an imminent release of the game for Mac. Instead, the developer's intentions is to open a online store for the sale of Epic Games products for both Mac and PC.

The date of the opening of the store is yet to be determined, as they have not provided data in this regard. The store is intended to sell both the developers' own products, as well as those of third parties, to compete directly with Steam and Apple's own Mac App Store.

The strategy carried out by Epic Games will be a increase in the revenue figure received by developers. Up to 88% of the proceeds will go to remunerating developers, compared to 70% usually paid by Steam and Mac App Store platforms.

In the words of Tim Sweeney, CEO of the company in an email, gives us the keys to the strategy that the company wants to carry out, and that you want to convey to your clients:

A platform with a great economy that connects us directly with our players

The company wants to take advantage of the success of Fornite as the banner of the digital store. Regardless of the takeoff of games for Mac, for now the hegemony has it Valve's Steam Store, which maintains the leadership against the Mac App Store. Valve's Steam Store strategy has been different up to now, but today wants to pay the same as the Apple store. Steam managers hope not to lose a significant number of developers on their platform.

Instead, Epic has a special collaboration with certain developers, registered at Unreal development engine, being somewhat more focused on the sale of games. It remains for Apple to demonstrate that its computers are fully prepared to play the most powerful games. The path started by Apple with external eGPU, you can help developers implement their games with the technology that Apple makes available to them. We will see the evolution in the coming months with the incorporation of new elements in the game.

Something that I have said several times and I reiterate is that Apple directs its products to all types of users including gamers, all Apple OSs are growing more and more as video game platforms, especially MacOS and developers have more and more interest in OS from Apple especially for the arrival of the new Mac App Store, Metal 2, etc.
