How to enable zoom on Mac to enlarge content

It is very likely that, on some occasion, you have seen some text in an application on your Mac, which you have not been able to read clearly. And, sometimes this is complicated, especially if you have a computer with a relatively small screen, or if you want to see something at a distance that is too compromised.

Be that as it may, you should not worry, since Apple includes a solution to the problem natively in macOS, and it is none other than the simple zoom, which although it may not seem like it can be very useful on certain occasions.

How to activate and use zoom on Mac

Activate zoom

Firstly, you must activate this option within the settings of your equipment to be able to use it. This is very simple to do, and also if in the future you want to eliminate this function, you can do it without problem from this same site. To do this, you just have to follow these steps:

  1. On your Mac, enter the application System preferences.
  2. Once inside, in the main menu select the option "Accessibility" and, once inside, on the left, select the option called "Zoom", which is located within the viewing options.
  3. Now check the option "Use keyboard shortcuts to change the zoom", and you can start using it.
  4. If you want, taking advantage of the fact that you are already here, at the bottom you can select the zoom style what do you want. Apple gives you two options for you to select the one that best suits your tastes:
    • Full Screen: When you activate the zoom, everything on your computer screen will be automatically enlarged, depending on where you have the pointer positioned, so you will not need to select the area of the screen you need to enlarge.
    • Picture in Picture (PIP): when you activate the zoom, instead of enlarging all the content, a small box will appear (you can choose its size and the magnification it does from its configuration), which will be moved with the mouse, allowing you to enlarge the areas of the screen of selectively, rather than all at once. It is the option that I personally recommend in most cases.

Enable zoom on Mac

Use the zoom when you need it

So that you do not have problems, in order to use the zoom you will have to use a combination of keys, which is Alt + Command + 8. When you do this, the option you have previously chosen will be carried out, so if you had selected the full screen, you will automatically see how everything increases, and if you had chosen the image within the image, a small window will appear with the zoom activated, which you can move around the screen as you like.

Also, if you wish, with Alt + Command + 0, you can zoom further on the screen if you wish, and when you no longer need it, just by pressing again Alt + Command + 8, the function will be disabled.

Yes, it is also another possibility that Apple gives us and that is very good, although logically both work the same, only the key combination changes 😉
