How to add Waze or Google Maps to CarPlay

If you have followed the news of the last few days, you will know that Apple CarPlay opens up to other maps. Currently, and under the iOS 11 version this is not possible. If you want a map, this must be Apple Maps. However, with the arrival of iOS 12 things will change and other applications such as Google Maps or the popular Waze browser can be added.

It is true that the final version of the platform will not reach users until next September. However, the first beta for developers is available from June 4 y the first public beta will do so at the end of this month of June. Therefore, there will be functions that you can already try - if you dare - on your device.

Therefore, the first thing you should do is install the first beta of iOS 12 on your iPhone; if you do these same steps with iOS 11.4 it will not be possible, although it will help you to add or remove some app from your vehicle screen. Similarly, not all applications are compatible with CarPlay; if they are, they appear directly on the screen. Now, it will not be possible to add any of these two GPS navigation options, that is, neither Waze nor Google Maps.

First of all, head to «Settings» of the iPhone and look for the option "General". Inside you must move until you reach "CarPlay" and press again. You will see that it will let you select the vehicle to which you want to add these two applications - the complete list of vehicles that you have registered or linked with your iPhone will appear.

It will be the moment in which you will be represented on the screen how CarPlay would look in your vehicle and the applications that are added. At the bottom you will see the compatible apps that are not added and that are accompanied by a small icon (+) that will add them to the list. This is what you will have to do with Waze or Google Maps to be able to enjoy them in CarPlay.
