In two days, on March 8, we will have the start of the new apple event. The first of this 2022 and very early riser that will have the title of Peek Performance. In the same, it is not known for sure what Apple has prepared for us, but it is rumored and it is very strong, that on that day a new Mac will see the light. Among all the possible candidates, the one that is in the lead is the Mac mini. This small and versatile computer already needed a review and if all goes well and it shows up that day it will bring some news that we review below.
Change of external appearance and number of ports
The first thing that should draw our attention to what the new Mac mini will be like is its design. Rumors indicate that it will change its appearance considering that going from Intel to M1 it would not need as many ports. Almost a year ago, YouTuber Jon Prosser claimed that the next Mac mini would feature a new generation of design. The new model will replace the space gray Intel model. The new design could feature a new external chassis that would have a "plexiglass-like" reflective surface on top.
Although the M1 Mac mini has fewer ports due to limitations with the first-generation Apple Silicon design, this new product would offer a full lineup of ports including four USB4/Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-A ports, Ethernet, and HDMI output. Also, this powerful Mac mini would have the same style of magnetic power connector that Apple introduced on the iMac M1. Prosser speculates that the superior glass-like finish it may mean that Apple is releasing a range of two-tone color options for the Mac mini, similar to the colorful iMac lineup.
Processor and storage
In May 2021, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said the new Mac mini would feature a "Next-generation Apple Silicon chip with 8 high-performance cores and 2 efficiency cores«. Not only that, but it would also support up to 64GB of RAM. In this case, the next generation Apple Silicon chip could be the already announced M1 Pro and M1 Max processors or the upcoming M2 chip.
Two models better than one
As we have indicated before in this blog, Apple may be preparing a new Mac mini called Mac Studio. This product could be the most powerful Mac mini to date. In this way, it is speculated that Apple could be developing two versions of this new Mac mini. One would feature the M1 Max chip and the other is a variant of the Apple Silicon chip that is even more powerful than the current M1 Max.
Apple may likely release this more powerful Mac mini first, as it has just announced the M1 Max chip, and its next high-end version is expected to arrive in about a year from now. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg thinks the company could use the M1 Pro chip in this new Mac mini.
We could see a model on March 8 and another in June
On March 8 we could see how Apple presents the world with a new model of Mac mini. We could meet the Apple Silicon model with M1 Max chip that would be called to replace high-end Intel version. To this we could add a second Mac mini that would be presented in May or June. We are talking about the newly rumored Mac Studio. Much more powerful.

Apple will want to get developer support for super-powerful Mac Pro chips, so I'm guessing the company wants to debut that machine as soon as the WWDC event in June and ship it in the fall. A refurbished MacBook Air would be a good Christmas seller, so it makes sense to release it around that time of year, even if Apple had originally planned to roll it out the door in late 2021 or early 2022.
