Charging problems with Apple Watch and watchOS 8.3

Nomad base for MagSafe

Some Apple Watch Series 7 users are experiencing problems with charging after updating after updating to the latest version of watchOS available, 8.3, as we can read on Reddit and the Apple support community. Most of the complaints are related to third party chargers.

This problem, it seems that it is not exclusively affecting the Apple Watch Series 7, but, in addition, it is also affecting previous models. Many of the complaints concern cheap chargers available on Amazon.

In many cases, the Apple Watch starts charging for a few minutes and then stops completely. Restarting the Apple Watch can help to start charging, but it doesn't seem like a permanent solution for most people, as charging problems recur after a few minutes.

Other users claim that this problem also happens, although less often, with the official Apple loading disc, that the charge is slower than normal or that the Apple Watch directly turns off when it runs out of battery while, in theory, they are charging.

There have been complaints about charging issues on the Apple Watch Series 7 since the beginning of november. Apple initially addressed an issue that was causing slow upload speeds in the watchOS 8.1.1 update.

Some users continued to see issues even after the November watchOS 8.1.1 update, and the watchOS 8.3 update. seems to have introduced trouble for even more Apple Watch owners.

It is not clear if apple has a solution for issues users are experiencing after the watchOS 8.3 update, but the issue will likely be addressed in a future update.

If you are having trouble charging your Apple Watch, the only thing you can do is arm yourself with patience. In particular, I have a compatible and official Series 6 and charger with which I charge it every day without problems.
