BlackMagic Pro eGPU appears and disappears from the Apple Store

Blackmagic eGPU Pro

The use of external graphics or eGPUs is proliferating, either to shorten the time in video work, compilation of applications or improve graphics in games. In the case of Black Magic Pro that Apple sells, we did not know there was so much demand of some models, or there has been a stock break In all rules.

Be that as it may, it is a model that goes on the market before Christmas, but quickly runs out in the online store. The same has happened in the last hours. Appears in the Apple Store and sells out in a matter of hours.

And it is not because its price has a considerable discount, as it is for sale for 1.359€. For this price in addition to a box with an elegant design and a prepared structure To squeeze all its performance, we found one of the most powerful and valued graphics on the market: Radeon RX Vega 56, which we can find for example in the iMacPro.

Everything seems to indicate that the demand for this product has exceeded all expectations. Investing in an eGPU is a decision that has to mature, as they do not have a low price for the average user or the advanced user that will give little use. Perhaps that is why many users opt for the BlackMagic Pro model, as in this way they ensure that they will have graphic power for many years.

As an alternative, some Apple websites are offering other models like the Pegasus3 R4. But if you search the Apple website in Spain, we still haven't found this or other similar alternatives. On the other hand, if we have available the BlackMagic standard model at € 695. Both BlackMagic models share their exterior structure and the internal part related to the distribution and ventilation of the graphics. But as expected, the graphics of the standard model is somewhat inferior to the Radeon Pro 580 with 8 GB of GDDR5 memory, but fully prepared for the vast majority of processes of an average and even advanced user.

Hello, I have an iMac from mid-2011, I have read that with thunderbolt 1 external graphics can be used by modifying some parameter of the terminal ... Could you make a tutorial or explain how it can be done? All the info there is in English and it's a bit complicated, the info is on the egpu.io page. Thanks
