The Apple Watch Series 3 has more potential than the one initially presented. Thanks to the number of sensors and the GPS Chip that was incorporated in the Series 2, we can collect information from our daily exercise. Running even swimming are tasks that many sports watches perform.
Today we have known that the version of watchOS 4.2. It includes new APIs to record snow sports information. The developers have not been waiting and applications like Slopes, Snoww, Squaw Alpine, Snocru and Ski Tracks, are compatible with the information collected by the Apple watch in vertical descent, distance, number of runs, average speed and calories burned.
The Series 3 is the only one to date with an altimeter, an essential requirement to record slopes of slopes and perform more precise calculations.
Although the API in watchOS 4.2. is operational, the official applications do not include the data collected in a snow training. It is true that the Workout application includes a Snow Sports category, but it is not implemented.
In line with other Apple stocks, the company is preparing these functions to be leveraged and implemented by third parties. Elevation, accelerometer and GPS measurements collect data to measure calorie wear, descents or speed, among other parameters. The new API takes into account the time you are riding the slopes thanks to the altimeter and the speed at which you travel.
The collected activity is transferred to the HealthKit data and helps you complete activity rings, as if it were another exercise. In addition, the application is prepared to pause, when it detects that you are in a moment of pause, for rest or to replenish energy.
Among the list of applications that implement the watchOS 4.2 API, we find that in the applications Slopes and Snoww, are compatible with SiriKit. Therefore, we can give instructions to Siri in relation to the activity that we are doing at that moment. We hope that Apple continues to add features to the Apple Watch, as its potential with built-in GPS and altimeter allows for a world of possibilities.
