This last week we have contemplated different disassembly and assembly tests of the latest model of the Mac mini. For many it is what I know expected and for others it falls short, but the parts of the Mac mini of 2018 are easier to replace in relation to the last model presented by the brand, the Mac mini from 2014.
If you are not a person familiar with handling the parts of a Mac, you should not check everything we tell you, but say that it is possible disassemble the motherboard pressing in a certain place. And RAM memory is protected, now we will see the reasons.
RAM is protected by a small cage that allows working at high frequencies without generating electromagnetic interference. This does not mean that RAM can be replaced as we see fit. Other components like feeding 150 watts, it is easily removable and can be replaced.
On the other hand, as we have known in other tests that have been carried out on the Mac mini, the rest of the components cannot be ginned, as is the case with the SSD memory, which is welded to the motherboard and we must select very well the features that we want it to contain. What we have achieved in the last hours are the controllers of Thunderbolt 3. At first it seemed that there was a single controller, but the tests of the last hours inform us of two Thunderbolt 3 controllers.
On the other hand, it is a product that Apple does not plan to renew for a few years. Being a more generic product, it will likely take around 4 years for us to see the next generation of Mac mini. Of course, it has enough ports for us to keep our equipment updated with more RAM, external memory SSD or graphics power, thanks to external graphics eGPUs that we have available from the latest versions of macOS High Sierra. This segment has more and more variety for any type of user.
